Food Security
Refugee families who flee their homes overnight due to wars and armed conflict lack daily essential needs, and at the top of these needs is access to safe food and nutrition.
Good nutrition is about consistently reliable access to safe and nutritious food, as it impacts our daily life and overall health. It is not enough to consume food randomly; it must be consistent and nutritious.
According to the World Food Summit, food security is defined as “when all people, at all times, have physical and economic access to sufficient safe and nutritious food that meets their dietary needs and food preferences for an active and healthy life.”.
These four components determine food security:
- Food availability.
- Food accessibility.
- Food utilization.
- Food stability.
Poverty Line
The poverty line increases with time, mainly because the prices are at a continuance rising.
And as differences in price levels across the world evolve, the global poverty line has to be periodically updated to reflect these changes.
Due to these changes, the international poverty line has been updated from $1.90 to $2.15 per person per day in 2022, meaning anyone living on less than $2.15 a day is considered to be living in extreme poverty.
The international poverty line is periodically updated to reflect changes in prices worldwide. The rise in the international poverty line reflects an increase in the costs of basic levels of provided food, clothing, and living place needs in low countries.
Therefore, as long as the purchasing power parties (PPPs) keep evolving, the poverty line will keep on changing.
Now, as estimated, the next update of (PPPs) data is planned for the 2021 reference year, and the new (PPPs) are expected to be released in 2023.

The Importance of the Food Parcel to Refugee
The brutal war and armed conflict have forced thousands of refugees to leave their homes and move to other places to settle in, missing out on many essential needs in their lives, and at the top of these needs are healthcare, nutrition, and education.
Refugees living in camps, internally, on borders, or in refugee-hosting countries are in crucial need of food parcels because most of these refugee families do not have an income to buy their food needs.
Therefore they depend fully on the food parcels provided by charities, NGO’s, or civil society communities.
The standard food parcels are designed to last a month for a family of five. These food parcels contain dozens of essential staples, including rice, pasta, canned meat, and fish, beans, and cooking oil.

Hunger is a key factor in healthcare problems and health decline in pregnant women and their newborn babies.
It is also the reason for many malnutrition-related diseases in young children and elderly people.
Therefore, donating a food basket to refugee families will not only keep them safe from feeling extremely hungry, but it will improve their overall health and give them the power and energy to keep up with life and daily tasks.
