Sponsoring an Orphan or Family
Sadaqah Jariyah means “A continuous charity”. It is a long-term charity, and it is under the Islamic legal category of “Waqf”. It is one of the most rewarding Sadaqah.
This Hadith shows us how much Sadaqah Jariyah is important:
On the authority of Abu Hurairah (RA) that the Messenger of Allah (saw) said, “When a person dies, his deeds come to an end except for three: Sadaqah Jariyah (a continuous charity), or knowledge from which benefit is gained, or a righteous child who prays for him.” (Muslim)
Sponsoring an orphan is the last part of this Hadith, the child who would pray for you. Sponsoring an orphan is Sadaqah Jariyah, and it is the most loved work to Allah.
Sponsoring a Teacher or Student
Sponsoring a teacher or a student is a Sadaqah Jariyah because by sponsoring Islamic learning, you are enabling students to learn beneficial knowledge, memorize the Qur’an or learn the language of the Qur’an. When the student implements this knowledge or the Qur’an they have memorized is recited, you will receive a copy of this reward every time the command is acted upon or the Qur’an is recited.
Imagine if the student memorizes the Qur’an and becomes a Qur’an teacher and teaches other students! It doesn’t stop there; imagine if the student you support becomes a speaker who delivers Islamic talks worldwide.
Building a Water Well
The most critical Sadaqah Jariyah project is giving water; you can see its importance in the following Hadith:
Sa’d ibn Ubadah reported:
I said, “O Messenger Of Allah, My mother has died. Shall I give charity on her behalf?” The Prophet said, “Yes.” I said, “Which charity is the best?”, The Prophet said, “A drink of water.”.
And also, in another Hadith:
Prophet Muhammad (SAW) said: “The best charity is giving water to drink,”
So giving water is the greatest Sadaqah Jariyah.
Participating in the Building of a Mosque, School, or Hospital
Many Muslims donate towards the construction of a mosque to gain significant rewards. You can also contribute to building a school, hospital, or even an orphanage, which goes on to benefit others. Your tips will continue for as long as others benefit from your generosity. In fact, you shall be rewarded for every prayer recited in the Mosque, every patient being treated in the hospital, and every individual gaining knowledge in school. An invaluable act of sadaqah that will impact countless lives.
Plant Trees or Converting Areas of Land into Farms
Planting a tree is Sadaqah Jariyah because that tree would then provide shelter and maybe fruits as well, for as long as it stands – meaning you shall receive an ongoing reward for as long as its benefits stand, too.
“Surely the men who give sadaqah and the women who give sadaqah have advanced a good loan to Allah SWT; for them, it will be multiplied, and there is a noble reward for them.” Qur’an (57:18).
Giving Copies of the Holy Quran
Giving copies of the Holy Qur’an and books of Dua as Sadaqah Jariyah can reap significant rewards for you. Every time a person reads or learns from your donated material, you shall gain the bonus of sadaqah Jariyah.
As well as religious books, there are many other items you can give to benefit others, such as tasbihs, prayer mats, hijabs, medical supplies, clothing, etc. Even putting a watering can in a graveyard goes a long way, as every time someone fills up the can to water a grave, you, in turn, receive the benefits.
Examples of Sadaqah Jariyah
You can do many projects and count as a Sadaqah Jariyah, building homes, schools, hospitals, water wells, and orphanages, and creating farms from deserted areas.
These projects have a significant positive impact on the community. However, the most critical Sadaqah Jariyah project is giving water; you can see its importance in the following Hadith:
Prophet Muhammad (SAW) said: “The best charity is giving water to drink,”
