Sadaqah is an Arabic word that means voluntary charity. It is the best form of charity, because it is given without any hope of return. The Prophet Muhammad said: “Charity given willingly and in good time is better than what is given unwillingly and at a bad time.”
The Qur’an encourages Muslims to give Sadaqah out of their wealth, and not to give it in order to receive more from Allah. “Those who spend their wealth by night and day, privately and publicly, they will have their reward with their Lord.” (Qur’an 2:274)
