WASH Program Goals
Bonyan aims to improve access to life-saving and life-sustaining WASH supplies and services in emergency, and to increase community resilience by restoring/establishing WASH infrastructures and services.
Main objectives:
- Delivering humanitarian WASH supplies and services; and improving hygienic behavior and practices.
- Supporting water, sanitation/sewage and solid waste management systems to ensure regular services.
- Improving WASH facilities and services in institutions to minimize sub-standard WASH conditions.
List of WASH Activities Conducted
Humanitarian WASH supplies and services:
- Distribution of essential WASH non-food items (NFI).
- Hygiene promotion campaign on COVID-19.
- Improve access to humanitarian life-saving/emergency WASH facilities and services, including strengthening Infection Prevention and Control (IPC) measures.
WASH Regular services:
- Repair and rehabilitation of water systems.
- Support to water quality assurance, operation and maintenance of water supply.
- Repair, rehabilitation and operational support to sanitation/sewage and solid waste management systems.
Improving WASH facilities and services:
- Support to WASH facilities and services in schools and child friendly spaces.
WASH Team Strategy and Area of Focus
Within the built experience of Bonyan team in implementing WASH activities, Bonyan has developed an WASH program strategy with the focus on expanding the below activities:
- Enhancing the integration between WASH program and other programs, especially ERL and FSL.
- promoting and implementing innovative projects that contribute to a better and clean environment such as waste management and waste recycling (solid and liquid) or using solar energy in operating of water systems.
- Building the affected community capacities in the field of managing and operating WASH infrastructures to increase their self-dependency in delivering services.
Key Achievements
- Of the first organizations who developed the sanitation infrastructures in Atma and Qah camps through construction of main sewage systems that contributed to the Prevention of Water-Borne Diseases for the affected-community.
- Of the first organizations who developed the water systems in Atma camps through installation of drinking-water network for 60 camps in Atma and its relevant infrastructures (water tanks and water pump stations).
- Enhanced the WASH services in formal camps through planning the WASH systems/services during the establishment phase of 8 IDP sites.
- Contributed to standardizing the WASH facilities/services in institutions (mainly in schools) in coordination with WASH cluster.
- Contributed to the evaluation of WASH projects in NW Syria through participating in the SCHF review committee.
- The first organization that intervened in WASH sector in Tal Abyad area in north of Ar Raqqa through establishment and rehabilitation of WASH systems.
